Grilled Seafood

If you’re looking for a place for halal seafood at reasonable prices, head to KK Pilipino Street Stalls. These street stalls are very popular among tourists and the locals. Westerner, European and Asian tourists are the main consumers.

It happens every night along waterfront in Kota Kinabalu, opposite Le Meridien Hotel. It consists of makeshift tents which can be seen about 5pm and by 6 pm you can see many stalls with a large variety of Seafood on display and each stalls. The vendors are organized according to what they sell, each section consists of cooked food to be served on the spot.

Choose from a wide selection of seafood – squid, fish, crabs, prawns, stingray, lobsters, etc. There are also  selling some fresh vegetables. They will then cook it for you – grilled or steamed, in lime or sambal (chili) sauce. They also offer Chinese style cooking for the seafood here.

Tiger Prawn bigger than your hand palm on
display at the market. One of the must try!!

Don’t be surprise to find a big lobster here!
It can cost more than RM100 each

The friendly seller took the order and sent our already cooked selection back to be reheated before serving. The moment we were seated, a packet of paper napkins was dropped on the table, next to it was a small plastic teapot for hand-washing and a bunch of cutleries. When the order came, the food was served on a plate wrapped in disposable transparent plastic bag. The seafood tastes awesome. If you have a good stomach, try the tiger prawns, lobster, seaweed called “latto”, fish and spanner crab, just to name a few as shown above.
